[director's lifestyle] A once-yearly treat! A carefree solo trip abroad
Since my child was born, I have had much less time alone.
On weekdays, I have free time until 3 p.m., when my children come home.
Before that I work, do housework, and occasionally have lunch or tea with friends to catch up on what's going on.
For me, the morning is the most crucial time when I can concentrate and work.
So, after I get my kids on the school bus at 7:30 in the morning, I spend the next four or five hours focused on the PC .
We spend our days like this, but recently my husband and I suggested that, now that the children are no longer so much a part of our lives, we should each go on a trip of our choice for two or three nights once a year to unwind.
nice!
So this year, I decided to go to Hong Kong on a solo trip.
This time, we bring you a very free and easy solo trip to Hong Kong.
Adult solo travel, where to go???
Somewhere warm and with an infinity pool
The first thing that came to my mind was that it was warm.
Even though it was summer in Tokyo, I couldn't stand the cold, so I decided to go south.
Specifically, Okinawa, the remote islands of Kagoshima, hot springs in Kyushu, Hong Kong, Jeju Island, and Busan.
Also, I wanted to prioritize things that I definitely couldn't do with my kids, so I decided that I wanted to have the luxury of spending the whole day by the pool reading a book while looking at the ocean!
So, there will be no hot springs in Kyushu this time.
From here, we will narrow it down further.
Places I haven't been to recently
My family and I had recently visited Ishigaki Island and Miyako Island in Okinawa, so we decided to rule Okinawa out as a possible destination.
Also, I've never been to Jeju Island or Busan, but I go to Seoul several times a year for work and personal reasons, so I've given up on Korea.
Where you can use your time effectively
This time we were given two nights.
The places I wanted to go the most were Yoron Island or Yakushima in Kagoshima, but I didn't want to waste my time connecting flights at Kagoshima Airport... (Also, there's a nice inn I'd like to stay at, but it would be a bit of a hurdle to be alone during meals, haha), so I'm going to rule out Kagoshima as well.
So we decided on the remaining Hong Kong!
Preparation
First, the preparations before going.
Packing List
Since I'm traveling alone, I don't have much luggage!
Moreover, it's midsummer over there, so I can wear light, comfortable dresses. It's the best.
Normally, when you're traveling with children, you end up packing this and that, even things that you won't end up using, just in case, and before you know it, your luggage is full.
In comparison, I feel so light and nimble this time!
Clothes for 2 nights
pajamas
underwear
Swimwear
Makeup pouch
skin care
hat
3 books
PC
Sandals
bag
passport
Wallet
charger
Is that about right? It's really so little!
What about your suitcase?
In fact, when I went to Hong Kong a few years ago, my checked suitcase was completely lost!!!
In the end, it turned out to be a tragedy.
Then, as a lesson, I decided to never put expensive things in my checked baggage.
If you really want to bring it, make sure you put it in your carry-on luggage.
This time I didn't have much luggage and I wanted to save time, so I decided to go in a Rimowa bag that could be carried on board.
On the way there, have breakfast at the JAL lounge at the airport.
This time I flew with Cathay Pacific, which was a good flight.
Cathay Pacific is in the same Oneworld Alliance as JAL , so you can use the Sakura Lounge by using your JAL status.
We had breakfast in the Sakura Lounge and then relaxed while waiting for boarding.
This is also true when traveling with children, as it's always hectic, and in the lounge you eat beer and curry like crazy, send your child to the toilet, download videos onto your tablet for the flight, and before you know it, it's already boarding time...
This kind of relaxing time before arriving at your destination may actually be the most luxurious thing you can have.
What to do in Hong Kong
Upon arrival, we took an Uber to the hotel.
The boutique hotel I wanted to stay at : Kerry Hotel Hong Kong
The purpose of this trip was to relax as much as possible, so after deciding on my destination, I narrowed down my hotel options based on the points below.
・Infinity pool available
・There is a club lounge (because I want to drink as much alcohol as I want whenever I want. Lol)
・Close to the airport
・I don't do any sightseeing so it doesn't matter if there's nothing around
As I was researching these conditions, I came across Kerry Hotel Hong Kong, a boutique hotel that I had been interested in for a while, and made an instant decision.
This is a waterfront hotel exactly as I wanted it to be.
At first, I thought about staying at the JW Marriott , where I stayed the last time I came to Hong Kong, but I decided against it because it was a little far from the airport and I was only staying for two nights so I didn't need to go into the city and didn't think I needed to go to the city center.
Also, my family often stays at Marriott hotels because we really want to take advantage of the membership benefits, but this time we thought we might as well try a hotel from a different chain.
Kerry Hotel is part of the Shangri-La chain.
Aperitif and cocktail time at the hotel's club lounge
During the evening cocktail hour, they made everything from champagne to white and red drinks, as well as cocktails, which was very casual and great for one person.
The food menu includes light snacks, fritters, burgers, noodles, and more. Of course, Chinese food is also available.
I sat at a table with a view of the ocean, watched Netflix , drank and ate slowly, and savored the happiness of having such a wonderful time.
But strangely enough, I also want to hear my child's voice, so I video chat with him on LINE .
I felt relieved because my husband and I were having fun playing together, covering the whole house with Plarail trains.
During the day, I read and research by the pool.
It was very hot and humid in Hong Kong during the day ( June ), so we basically spent the whole day in the pool.
This pool offers a spectacular harbour view overlooking Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island across the street, and it's really pleasant!
I read the three books I brought from Japan by the pool, and in between I did some research for work and planned for the future.
When it gets hot, jump in the pool.
This cycle continues until the day is over in a flash.
SPA time in the evening
When you think of Hong Kong, you think of massages and spas!
Is the cost performance a little better than in Japan?
I fell into a deep sleep, so I don't remember much except that it felt good, but it was a blissful time.
Dinner is at the hotel's Hung Tong, where you can enjoy modern dim sum.
Since I was traveling alone, I was looking for a dim sum place that was easy to go to, and I found a famous restaurant inside the hotel so I went in.
They were having happy hour on the outdoor terrace until our reservation time, so we had a drink while we waited.
The hotel staff were all very kind and no matter where I was they would casually ask if they could take a photo for me, which was great for a solo traveler.
So I was able to take a lot of photos.
The dim sum looks stylish and modern, but it tastes good - quite delicious!
Of course, it would probably be better value for money to eat at a local restaurant, but as I've said many times before, I was alone and there were only a limited number of restaurants I could go to, so in that respect, it was easier to go in at a hotel.
The interior of the store was also very clean and cute. I'm glad I went.
Fashion in Hong Kong

It's midsummer, so I've been wearing only summer dresses, shorts, or swimwear for the entire time I've been there.
Colored summer dresses
When I travel to a resort, I pack lots of colorful summer dresses.
In summer, we naturally tend to reach for colorful things.
You probably won't wear black or grey in the summer.
One-mile wear to wear over your swimsuit
When I'm at a resort where I'll often be spending long periods of time by the pool, I bring two or three swimsuits as well as a few pieces of one-mile wear that I can easily throw on over the tops and move around the hotel.
Since it's not a piece of clothing, you can't go outside in it, but you can put it on when you go back to your room or to a poolside restaurant.
It's very useful to have one, so I recommend it.
I love Tommy Bahama 's lightweight resort dresses and crochet dresses, which I often wear over my swimsuit.
By the way, I can't wear bikinis anymore, so I mostly wear one-piece swimsuits.
I often buy from Vikini Vender , CUPSHE , alexiastam , etc.
It's cute but also just the right amount of healthy, which is my type.
Bring a few mini bags
I always bring a few smaller mini bags with me to the resort.
Choose items that aren't bulky and that are as unique as possible.
For example, the Hermes Kelly To-Go for when you want to dress up and go to dinner.
A quilted drawstring bag from Iream for when you go out shopping during the day.
If you want to go completely casual and enjoy the resort vibe, try a basket bag purchased from a Thai food stall.
With so many different types of bags, you can completely change up your outfit and your mood to suit the occasion .

When traveling and want to keep your luggage to a minimum, I think it's easier to increase the variety of bags and broaden the range of outfits you can coordinate, rather than increasing the variety of shoes.
summary
It was only two nights, but being physically separated from my usually clingy child made me feel just the right amount of loneliness when I returned home, and I felt like I was able to treat him with more love.
Although I have been away from my child a few times since giving birth, for business trips and other reasons, this was the first time I had been completely away from him on vacation, so it felt fresh.
I am also grateful to my child, who cannot live without his mother, and to my husband for watching over him.
Also, I didn't meet a single Japanese person at the hotel during my stay, so even though it was close by, I felt like I was properly abroad, and it was a refreshing and good trip.
So, a week later, my husband left for a golf training camp.
Next year, where should we go?
I will do my best this year.
